Last week I had the awesome opportunity to go to the Netherlands to visit my artist friend, Titus Meeuws, and do an interview and performance for his podcast/YouTube channel. I had discovered Titus’ work online last year and was so moved by his paintings and approach to creativity that I reached out to see if we could do something together. That started a friendship that resulted in my being able to go over and visit and do this little collaboration with him. To experience the full circle of this relationship has been so meaningful. He’s one of the most genuine, wise, creative, kind, patient, peaceful people I’ve ever met and I expect we will be doing much more together in the future.
Watch our little collaboration here:
A few photos/video from my time with Titus:
Morren Gallery in Odijk, NL, where we filmed the performance and first part of the interview.
In addition to my time with Titus, I got to attend Olafur Arnalds’ OPIA Festival. What started as an opportunity for me to hear some great music and potentially network with other musicians in my genre turned into one of the most awesome experiences of my life (not hyperbole).
A group of us from all over the world who were in town for the festival connected on Discord and met up for brunch the day before the festival started…and we virtually didn’t leave each other’s side for the next few days. Some of the most humble, generous, talented, selfless people I’ve ever been around, my time with them gave a new definition to the idea of community.
Here are some pics of my time with these amazing humans:
And some highlights from the festival:
My favorite artist of the festival, The Vernon Spring (Check out his music here):
And, of course, the inimitable Kiasmos:
I came home to an absolute avalanche of work, so my posts here for the next month or so may be pretty bare-boned. But that means lots of exciting things are coming, including new Solemn Slade music, an album, a live performance video shoot, and a series of shows here in the northeast.
As always, thank you for being here.
Now THIS is how you collaborate!
This sounds like one of those landmark life trips whose energy will be with you for a long time; it's so wonderful you forged such a strong relationship across an ocean—thank you for taking us along!
