Yes! I am feeling so much of this as a visual artist. Got rid of Meta last September and have not missed any of that. You named the 'icky' doomscrolling hangover feeling spot on.
Just subscribed and I couldn’t agree more with what you’re saying. I’m in a similar situation and longing for longer warmer days here in the UK, to escape social media and TV, the conduits of “power”.
Though social media has, in large part, made my life for the past eight years and connectedness with friends all over the world possible, I long for the days of the flip phone. So many people are intentionally going analog now. I get it. I’m grateful to be old enough to remember a different world.
Hey Zach, reading this was like eating toast and watching a sunset at the close of a beautiful day. I relate with this greatly and I’d love to follow your journey and maybe drop some ideas as I navigate something similar.
Thank you for putting words to what so many of us are feeling. The cloying sense of anxiety mixed with waiting for the next bad thing. It has been utterly exhausting. I so love your remedy list. Mine includes joining the Common Book Club, April event here on Noted and a mapping project through Creative Quests. Walks and yoga have helped immensely. Staying off of social media, what a relief not to look at IG all the time. And embracing the mantra — we will get through this. I have a Ph.D. in History. I try to take comfort in knowing that although this isn’t the best of times, it isn’t the worst of times. We will get through this. After this, everything will be different. My hope and prayer is that as in times past, there is much evidence to show, things will change for the better. I hope you will post your music here and continue to share your experiences. Creativity is the salve we all need right now. Our own and that of others.
This is inspiring! I have felt that tension as well: the world says you must use social media to share the work. But the cost feels greater than the reward.
What has happened to you is simply aging. You’re getting it. A lot of people never do. You’re taking all the right steps. Release the phone, pick up a book, listen to music and learn to feel again. Welcome home, brother!
New subscriber and I'm enjoying this culture layover. I think everyone is feeling the exhaustion of bleh. All the things. I think if we can all curate our own realities and dig into artists/creators who feed our souls we'll all feel better. It's like we've all been following a tuna trawler and having to sift through all the fish to get to a couple dolphins that got caught up in the mess. The net has been too big of a catch. Keep doing what you're doing. :-)
I replaced social media time with reading two years ago, and instantly found myself reading 125+ books a year. Guess if I regret it.
Mybest advice is you have to remove the temptation COMPLETELY, or it will tug at you. This goes for anything addicting.
Amazing how much you can accomplish cutting social media out - not only the extra time you gain but also the headspace.

Please do, Oibiee! Thanks for being here.
I've been feeling this way too lately.... Best of luck to us on our journey detaching from social media!
I have to tell you how much this related to me and that your goals have given me something to think about myself.
I'm not much of a F-bomb person, but *&%^ the algorithms and cheers to your liberation!
This is the way
I identify with this so much Zach. Thanks.
Thanks for reading, Jason 🙏🏻
I hear you. Many of us will follow your creative journey, so keep us posted whenever it's best for you—wishing you and your family well.

Thank you Sandra for the kinds words and good thoughts. I agree we’ll get through this. Much pain in the process on the way there though.
