"I had no idea if it was good and, frankly, didn’t care. And now that I have started to build a career around it, I still don’t care if it ever succeeds commercially. I only care that I made something honest."
I love this. Not because I don't think you or we should be compensated for our work, but because it's so cool when the making of the thing is enough. There have been times when hearing something I wrote performed just once has been enough. Of course I hope my music moves and reaches more people, but the single performance (at times) made all of the work I put in worth the while.
Congratulations on the first album and getting to a place where you feel more comfortable sharing its genesis!
Thanks Shane! It’s tempting to make artistic compromises to make our music more palatable or sellable or playlistable. There’s a place for that kind of music making. But I wanted this to be completely free of those considerations. I wanted to make something completely pure. For this project that’s all that matters to me. And, yes, it’s SO rewarding!
Hi Zach, life got in the way of buying and downloading this immediately BUT that just means I could savour it now. I've bought your album because I 100% knew it would be amazing. I was eager to listen to Shiver, the strings at 3'25 and the chord progression and switch up at 3'35...HOPE out of the melancholic struggle is my interpretation. I appreciate how you weave elements together.
I'm choosing to listen to a track a day so they don't merge and I can savour them. I listened to the Prologue track before Shiver - it echoed 'Riverless' elements, and drew me in, in it's organ-church like call to prayer. I'm glad I used my big headphones, it demands surround sound.
Thank you for sharing your cultivated gift with us. I've started adding your songs to my Spotify playlist.
Thanks for listening, Svana 🙏🏻

Thank you Victoria! 🙏🏻 Your support and intentional listening are so encouraging.
You’re very welcome, Zach. I’m carving out time to listen to the next track ;-)
